We will also have tips to help you avoid contracting some common maladies, and the best ways to deal with common ailments, when the need arises. Together we will work to make sure you get necessary information along with the highest quality of care available to maximize your overall health and well being.
Probably the best place to start is to explain what a primary care physician does, and who needs one.
What is a primary care physician?
A primary care physician (PCP) is your primary or first source for medical care. He is your “regular doctor” who coordinates your medical care. Your PCP will take care of your comprehensive medical needs, as opposed to a specialist, who sees you for usually only one specific medical issue, i.e. cardiologist for heart problems, OB/GYN for women’s health issues.
Most primary care physicians are either Internal Medicine specialists or Family Practice physicians. Dr. John D. Rodriguez of HealthCare2U is a board certified Internal Medicine specialist who treats chronic diseases like hypertension, diabetes, and thyroid disorders, as well as allergies, migraines, insomnia, weight management, annual check-ups, sports physicals and everything in between.
He can also keep you up to date with vaccines and immunizations. Dr. Rodriguez treats patients between the ages of 10 and 64.
Who needs a primary care physician?
Everyone needs a primary care physician whom they can call on when they have an acute illness, minor injury, chronic disease, or need medications or a check-up. At Business Healthcare Solutions, your primary care physician will have immediate access to your medical records from prior visits, and has your medical history at his disposal, eliminating the need to establish yourself with a different doctor every time you need medical care.
The time to find your primary care physician isn’t when you are in desperate need of a doctor. The best way is to get established with your physician before you have an acute condition that needs immediate attention, so that when the time comes that you need to see the doctor for something urgent, there won’t be any surprises.
What kind of surprises, you might wonder. For example, if you came down with an upper respiratory infection and needed an antibiotic you could go to the urgent care clinic and see the doctor on call that day, who has no history with you as a patient, and who will charge $125 just for one office visit, if you don’t have insurance. Or, as a member of Healthcare2U, you can see your personal primary care doctor as many times as necessary for $30 per month and a copay of $10 per office visit. And if you have already seen your Healthcare2U physician previously, in many instances he can diagnose your symptoms over the phone and call in a prescription for you so you don’t even have to come in to the clinic, saving you time, travel and the copay!
